Workplace Wellness Programs Benefit All

Eighty percent of premature deaths from heart disease and stroke could be avoided by controlling the main risk factors: tobacco use, unhealthy diet, and physical inactivity. That is why on World Heart Day, September 27th, 2009, the workplace (which allows access to an estimated 54 percent of the world’s population) is the platform for which everyone is asked to “Work With Heart” to improve health and productivity and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Healthy Aging Means It Is Never Too Late to Get Fit!

Regular exercise is more important for seniors than any other age group, particularly because the risk of disease and loss of mobility is greater, but also because the positive effects of exercise are realized more quickly. The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services states that adults can gain substantial health benefits through moderate aerobic physical activity; a minimum of two and a half hours a week, or 20 minutes per day.

Whether you enjoy fruits and vegetables fresh, frozen, canned, or dried, eating more of these vitamin-packed foods is highly recommended for your health. The current recommendation for most adults is 7 to 13 servings a day (which is approximately 3 to 6 and one half cups a day).
